The six-story Powell Hotel is located just off Market Street at the cable-car turnaround. Both Union Square shopping and the Sony Metreon Entertainment Center are two blocks away. Occupying a 1908 building, this hotel retains many historic features, including a 20-foot ceiling in the whimsically decorated lobby decorated with plush, blue-and-gold chairs and oversized benches with high, colorful backs. Just off the lobby, a casual café serves breakfast, lunch, snacks, and coffee.
